Chapter Nine- Temptation

One day, as Neveah and Damek walked together in the garden, the serpent secretly nudged them in the direction of the forbidden tree. As they passed it by, he slipped a little snippet of “curiosity” into the mind of the woman and drew her to stop in front of it. Immediately, Damek felt a warning signal to turn away and not look, which he followed, but he knew instantly that Neveah was gazing at the tree. He could feel the desire for its fruit well up inside her just as had happened to him when he was first shown it by the Master.

“Neveah, quickly come with me…away from this tree. It is not wise to look upon it.” He warned, taking her arm to guide her away. Resisting his pull, she turned away from him and continued to look at the tree. Finally he drew her into his arms and turned her face away from it. “I want only what is good for you. Please let’s leave this place now and never return.” He whispered. “Yes my husband.” with her eyes distracted from its allure, she returned to reality and followed Damek away from the tree.

Days later, again the Serpent spewed forth his poison in subtle ways. More little thoughts floated into Neveah's 'mind. She became resentful of Damek’s insistence they stay away from the middle of the Garden. She began to imagine the tree and its delicious fruit within her grasp. In her mind, she reached out and felt the soft smoothness of its skin and wondered what it would taste like if she bit into it. Damek, knowing what she was thinking, became frustrated and angry, not knowing what to do about it. The Serpent made them both forget to consult the Master by clouding and confusing their minds.

The young Master walked alone through the forests and along the river, waiting for a call from either of them, but none came. No matter how he had been forewarned that this might happen, he hadn’t understood how painful it would be. His heart was breaking into a million pieces. He longed to gather them both in his arms and guide them to safety but their own choices and decisions were creating their lives and he must not interfere. He must wait for them to call upon him and if they didn’t, he had to stay in the shadows and let them go on to the lessons they must learn. Neveah and the Serpent
